Friday, Sep 14, 2012 - Got the car out of the car park, but not without difficulty since I had misplaced the entry ticket. The attendent took my word for my entry time though so it worked out okay. Another friendly Scotsman.
We drove out of Edinburgh, quite a challenge, even without the tram construction, headed north into the highlands. The rental car was a Ford Focus, but a version we don't get in the U.S. It had a diesel engine and an automatic start-stop system. I ended up getting 45 mpg(US)!
But first I had to stop and check out the Forth Rail Bridge. This was a structure I had been impressed with since I acquired a book about it many years ago. It looks incredibly strong.
Our ultimate destination was the Dunallan House in Grantown-on-Spey in the Cairngorm Mountains, but first I wanted to have a look at Dunottar Castle, sitting on top of a peninsula jutting into the North Sea.
Saw this while leaving the castle:
Had venison and a local brew at the Garth Hotel in Grantown-on-Spey.
